The John Mahood school community is incredibly saddened to share with you the news that Mme. Jennifer Brighton died. Mme. Brighton joined John Mahood on September 4, 2007, in our French Immersion programMme. Brighton was involved in many things at John Mahood including organizing the We Day Committee, directing student-led performances like Peter Pan, running a Coin Club, helping with Grade 6 fundraising initiatives like Popcorn Sales.  She also loved running the Junior Track and Field Meet at John Mahood, and cheering the students on at our Regional Meet. One of her favourite things to do with her class was take them out to play Soccer Baseball in the Spring.  She took a lot of pride in having beautiful artwork displayed in her portable window for the school community to enjoy.

Mme. Brighton was a compassionate and caring teacher who was dedicated to supporting all of her students. She was loved by her students past and present. In her classroom and extracurriculars, she created inclusive environments where all students felt welcomed and valued.  Mme Brighton was always kind, compassionate, upbeat, funny, positive, generous, and cheerful.  She always saw the best in everyone.

A private ceremony has taken place. Our thoughts are with Jen’s family at this time.

Our team at John Mahood and members of the Board’s Critical Events Response Team were at the school last week to support.

In honour of Mme. Jennifer Brighton the flags at John Mahood and the Waterloo Region District School Board will be flown at half mast this week.

Please check in with your child in the days to come. If you have any concerns about your child, please do not hesitate to contact me via email to discuss support.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Pam Mustin,

Principal
